Microneedling vs. ProCell Microchanneling: What's the Difference?
If you're interested in improving texture, fine lines, or uneven tone, you've probably seen both microneedling and microchanneling mentioned. They sound alike, and both support the skin's natural collagen production, but they are different treatments. Here's how they compare, so you can walk into your consultation with the right questions.
Microneedling (SkinPen)
Microneedling uses controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the skin's natural healing process. That response boosts collagen and elastin production, which can help with fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven pigmentation. It can also be paired with add-ons like PRF or PDGF growth factors to support healing and enhance results. At Essence², microneedling is available for the face and neck, or the face, neck, and décolleté.
ProCell Microchanneling
ProCell uses a mechanized stamping device to create tiny, clean microchannels in the skin while a medical-grade growth factor serum is applied. Its needles are made from wire filaments small enough to fit into a hair follicle, which helps limit trauma to the dermis and supports a faster recovery. ProCell is not microneedling, even though the goal of stimulating collagen is similar.
How to choose
Your goals. Texture, scarring, and deeper lines may point toward microneedling. Overall rejuvenation with a gentler recovery may point toward ProCell.
Your schedule. Think about how much recovery time you want before a big event or photos.
The treatment area. ProCell can be done on the face or other areas, and pricing depends on the area treated.
Your skin history. Your provider will review your health and skin history to recommend what's appropriate for you.
Results vary from person to person, and both treatments work best as a series. We'll build a plan with you based on your skin and your goals.
